2007 Holstein Edition of the Sale of Stars
The 55th edition of this highly renowned sale series, the Holstein Sale of Stars, was held on Thursday, November 8, immediately following
the Component Breed Edition of the Sale of Stars at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, Exhibition Place, Toronto, Ontario, Canada in the Ring of Excellence.
The Ring of Excellence was overflowing with dairy cattle enthuisiasts as more than 2,000 spectators watched as Semex presented one of the finest groups of Holstein cattle assembled anywhere to sell for a record breaking $25,667.31 on 51 lots, making it the third highest averaging consignment sale of all time.
Highlights of the evening include:
- Lot 7: Gen-I-Beq September Sacha-Red (VG-88-2YR-CAN September Storm x Igniter Sacha x Splendor) selling for $112,000 to Erbcrest & Nithcrest of Milverton, Ontario. Sacha was consigned by Comestar Holsteins of Victoriaville, Quebec and La Travesia Farm & La Ponderosa of Spain.
- Lot 1: Comestar Lautamia Bolton (#1 LPI heifer in Canada, being a Bolton x Lautamie Titanic) selling for $110,000 to Nipponia Genetics of Puslinch, Ontario. Lautamia was consigned by Comestar Holsteins of Victoriaville, Quebec and La Travesia Farm & La Ponderosa of Spain
- Lot 4: Gen-I-Beq Goldwyn Sofia (VG-86-2YR-CAN Goldwyn x Gen-I-Beq Durham Sherry) selling for $97,000 to Bert DeBruyn, Chartroise Holsteins, Rockford, Ohio.
- Added Lot 58: Swiss Acres Morris UBI D (VG-85-2YR-CAN Mia Morris who was the Res. Grand Champion at the 2007 Royal Red & White Show held earlier that day), selling for $64,000 to Richard Green of Middletown, Delaware, USA and George Kasbergen of Mansfield, Illinois, USA. She was consigned by Continental Holsteins, Leduc, Alberta, Tom DeWaal, Prince George, British Columbia, Glenvue Holsteins, Rockwood, Ontario, Joel Phoenix, Uxbridge, Ontario & Pat Conroy, Angola, Indiana, USA.
"We were all humbled by the consignments we were offered," says Julien Chabot, Semex Alliance Sire Analyst & Sale Co-Chair. "This sale's success is a reflection of the strong genetics we have available and their extreme value on the open market. Thank you to all of our consignors and successful purchasers... certainly this sale's success is really their success."
The next day, bidding continued on the Holstein Embryo Sale and concluded the following day. The anticipation grew and the crowd gathered as auctioneer Brent Walker of Guelph, Ontario called for additional bids, closing each lot one by one.
Highlights of the Embryo Sale:
- Lot #1S: 5 Mutually Agreeable Sire embryos x Coldsprings Dur Chan 109 (2nd Aged Cow, World Dairy Expo 2007 & Grand Champion NY Spring Show 2007) selling for $4000 per embryo to Corey Wolfe of Millville, PA, USA. These embryos were consigned by Kingstead Farms & Mercuro, Maryland, USA.
- Lot #2S: 4 Baxter Embryos x Windy-Knoll-View Pammy (1st Sr 2 Yr Old & Hon. Mention Champion PA All-American 2007) selling for $3900 per embryo to Mathew Wills of the United Kingdom. These embryos were consigned by Windy-Knoll-Farm of Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, USA.
- Sale averages $2,478.57/embryo on 14 embryo lots.

2007 Component Sale of Stars
The Semex Alliance was proud to once again manage the 2007 Sale of Stars, Component Breed Edition headed by Sale Manager Gary Bowers and Semex Sire Analyst Patrice Simard, along with representatives from each breed association including, Yves Charpentier from the Canadian Ayrshire Association, Jessie Weir from the Canadian Brown Swiss & Braunvieh Association and Russell Gammon and his staff from Jersey Canada.

The 55th edition of this highly renowned sale series will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2007 beginning at 5:00 p.m. with the Sale of Stars Component Breed Edition. Immediately following will be the Sale of Stars Holstein Edition, with both sales held at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, Exhibition Place, Toronto, Ontario, Canada in the Ring of Excellence. Additionally, the Sale of Stars Embryo Auction will take place beginning Thursday, November 8 at 9:00 a.m. and closing on Friday, November 9 at 2:00 p.m.

2006 Sale of Stars

The 54th edition of this highly renowned sale series, the Sale of Stars, was held on Friday, November 10 at 6:00 p.m., immediately following the National Holstein Heifer Show at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, Exhibition Place, Toronto, Ontario, Canada in the Ring of Excellence.
Once again, the Royal's Ring of Excellence was filled to capacity as more than 2,000 spectators gathered to watch some of the finest Holsteins anywhere sell for a phenomenal average of $19,765.08 on 63 lots!
Highlights of the evening include:
Lot #1 Quality Dundee Frilcon (January 2006 Dundee x Frantisco) selling for $103,000 to Lee Dairy & Quality Holsteins, Ontario.
Second high seller was Lot #12 Comestar Lila C Stormatic (Aug. 2006 Stormatic x Lila Z) who sold for $70,000 to Ridgefield Holsteins of the UK.
Third high seller was added Lot A, the 2006 Royal Winter Fair Junior Champion, Valleyville Lheros Juliet, selling for $58,000 to the partnership of Lexis Holsteins, Idee Holsteins, Ferme Blondin & Ty-D, Quebec & Prince Edward Island.
The next day, bidding continued on the Holstein Silent Sale and concluded following the naming of Supreme Champion to Shoremar James daughter and dam of Lot 6S, Thrulane James Rose. The anticipation grew and the crowd gathered as auctioneer Brent Walker of Guelph, Ontario called for additional bids, closing each lot one by one.
